LA DOLFINA

  I went to an estate sale last week with my partner in crime for the sole purpose of taking photos for you guys... but I couldn't resist leaving without this wonderful wooden crate.     I thought the words "Flora Danica" rang a bell. I recalled something about a very expensive china pattern rendered with botanical flowers. I've seen a lot of great wooden crates but nothing like this one before and with a price tag of one dollar it was impossible to leave behind! I cleaned it up and placed inside it a couple of orchids I recently purchased at Trader Joe's and...   Voila! A great start to a fabulous arrangement if I may say so myself!   I think some moss and a whimsical touch or two and I'll have myself a lovely Spring  arrangement. That was easy! This morning my mom, husband and I are heading back to the estate sale from yesterday because we found out there are two, I SAID TWO, mangles there that are being held for my mom! This one is in the breakfast nook and there is another one in the basement.  It's not known if they are in working order but we are hopeful they are!   I neglected to tell you that after I posted on an estate sale where my mom spied a mangle she desperately wanted to buy (as a back up), her's broke!    I've been on a mission ever since to find her a replacement. We're hoping for a happy ending today... The guilt I've been suffering because I talked her out of it has been killing me) Wish us luck!!

I recently attended this estate sale in my neighborhood. It was so cool! I was totally digging the swank vibe. The sectional was to die for! I didn't buy anything but I loved just seeing the way it was decorated. I was so curious about the people who had lived here, in this relatively ordinary master planned community. I think they had a lot of cocktail parties and played Frank Sinatra! I must admit, I wanted these creations bad! I was told they were commissioned by a well known artist back in the 1970's. I was ready to pounce until I heard the prices. $350 for the small one and $500 for the large one. I guess they weren't meant to be mine. Dripping crystal everywhere! This little Maltese is a regular, as his owner works the sale. This home sits on one of the many lagoons that wind through our neighborhood. I thought it was brilliant how they mirrored a part of the fence to maximize their view of the lagoon and their small yard! Hope ...

Before heading off to the Cal vs CU Game yesterday... California Memorial Stadium opened in 1923 and currently seats 71,799 fans, making it northern California's largest football stadium in terms of seating capacity.  The stadium was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on Nov. 27, 2006. The Bears will play next season at Pac Bell Park in San Francisco while Memorial Stadium is undergoing a massive $321 million Retrofit and Renovation Thanks to my brother who got us tickets in the Alumni section     on the 50 yard line we had a great vantage point to see our beloved Buffalo's get chewed up and spit out of The Bears mighty jaws.   It all started out so hopeful as we high-fived our fellow Buffs who arrived by the thousands to witness a preview of the future of a Pac 10 rivalry. It turned out to be a very painful day for Buff fans.  I managed to squeeze in a great estate sale, so the day wasn't a total loss. ...
