LA DOLFINA

The day began with so much promise... what were the odds that with 2 mangles available neither one would work out?   After eying the Kenmore mangle upstairs in the kitchen nook my mom quickly dismissed it saying that the heating element was on top rather than underneath the roller like on the Ironrite model she learned on and has used for close to 70 years! Even though it initially looked a little worse for wear, she was hopeful. This Bendix model had the heating element in the right place and it's original manual! Sam and my husband set about looking for an electrical outlet and extension cord so they could  plug it in and see if this baby still worked. In the meantime I could tell my mom was losing interest after a closer inspection of the lift up tray which wouldn't stay up.  You see, she's a little snobby when it comes to mangles.  She's an Ironrite girl all the way. This morning my mom, husband and I are heading back to the estate sale from yesterday because we found out there are two, I SAID TWO, mangles there that are being held for my mom! This one is in the breakfast nook and there is another one in the basement.  It's not known if they are in working order but we are hopeful they are!   I neglected to tell you that after I posted on an estate sale where my mom spied a mangle she desperately wanted to buy (as a back up), her's broke!    I've been on a mission ever since to find her a replacement. We're hoping for a happy ending today... The guilt I've been suffering because I talked her out of it has been killing me) Wish us luck!!
