A treasure finds the perfect spot

Sometimes treasures collect you... 

 
Last month at The Alameda Pointe Antiques & Collectibles Fair, this one wouldn't let me leave without it.  I felt very guilty because it was more than I could afford but as hard as I tried I just couldn't walk away!  The worst part was I had no idea where I would put it and knew I didn't need it.  My friend patiently waited while I did my best to negotiate the price down and then fronted me the cash as I promised her I would never buy another boat again!


Well, last week, it found it's home.


The perfect spot.


The guilt is gone

(My two loves, coastal & chinoiserie)

 
and I'm wondering how I ever lived without it!

Terri, it's perfect for that little nook. It adds just the right dash of colour and the distressed look of the boat keeps a slice of tradition in there, too. Perfecto!

So glad that piece found you I too would have snag it right up. I would have then tried to remove some blue for my tone of decor and left some blue on it like the buffet in my kitchen with tha driftwood tone to the box, not distrubing anything else about its age.

For where you have it displayed it takes on a look of its own and it leaves me breathless.
I am really in wow of what you find, mixing that whole european feel to your villa home, like the ocean sides of France!

You have a piece to truly love, of course you do its in your home and anything that makes it into your home is worth loving!

You would have regretted more if you had walked away without it... enjoy your treasure.

This reminds me a bit of my ship in bottle. I fortunately had it for free years ago, I took care and trained a racing horse, it took part in races in Hamburg, Germany. Ship in the bottle was a gift from Hamburg horse racing organization for all the trainers. It makes a great memory of my years working with horses.

Holiday Home Tour - House #2

Both my mom and my uncle's homes were part of the Holiday Home Tour this year benefiting The Alameda Family Services League. My uncle's home is a grand old Spanish Revival that wraps the corner of Northwood Dr. (the street I grew up on) and Yale Dr. where he and my mom grew up and where my mom now lives. His address is actually Gibbons Drive which is one of the most beautiful tree lined streets in Alameda. "Alameda" actually means, tree-lined avenue!  This fountain greets you at the entry to his home. Santa had the perfect spot for a long afternoon of greeting guests.  You may remember the greeting he gave my mom when he saw her!! A lovely vignette awaits you at the door. My mom is no stranger to this house. They have lived in the same neighborhood, just a few houses apart, for over 40 years! Summer Living

We haven't had a summer vacation yet but all it took for me to get inspired to do a little upgrade to our summer room or as my hubby calls it, his mancave, which is actually our garage, was this little number... It had been sitting for the longest time in my favorite thrift store and as hard as I tried to ignore it, it finally got my attention when one night as I was watching a movie with my hubby I imagined it across the room replacing an existing bench. Bright and early the following morning I high tailed it over there hoping it would still be there waiting for me! I sighed a breath of relief when I spied it over in the corner.  It was originally priced at $250 but had been lowered recently to $100. I asked politely if they might meet me at $75.   They promptly agreed as they were anxious to free up space. Once I got it home it became the catalyst for further upgrades in the space.
