My Next Project is...

To hang and arrange all the stuff I've been collecting for my son's new and improved bedroom/guest room!


I'm calling it "Explorer Style "


It's a total mess right now because I'm in the throes of the creative process trying to figure out what goes where... on the walls that is.


 I'm thinking butterfly and shell specimens around the window wall and lanterns.


Ship paintings and antlers on the wall at the head of the bed,

  

and portraits on the wall adjacent to the closet.


I think I'll let the map stand alone.

  
I've been thinking about the placement of these treasures for a while now and I think it's time to commit.


 I've been collecting vintage cash boxes in homage to my son's career choice in finance.


I love the global, traveled feel of the John Robshaw duvet and dhurrie rug.

  
I'm considering hanging the boat skeleton above the bed if it's not too much.


I have to tell myself to edit, edit, edit!


 Whatever I don't use can go to the new shop!


As you can see I have a lot of inspiration...
 

Wish me luck and stay tuned for the big reveal!

You don't need luck you are full of talent! It will be fantastic. I have a cash box exactly like that top one - been in my family for years and my mother recently gave it to me. My father was a banker :)

I have one cash box and love it...used it quite often over the years. Looks like the one on top. Love the flavor of the room. You really have a great eye for design. So when shall we get together...soon I hope!

It's going to be wonderful. I really love the chocolate wall color. I think you have also shown us some wonderful old ship painting that will be beautiful in that room too. I have a cash box collection too...love it! The room will be great!

How do you edit such amazing treasures? I loved his room when I saw it and these things can only make it better!

You have so many wonderful treasures to work with Terri. I know you will pull it all together beautifully. You are lucky your son doesn't mind. Mine would! He has his own collection of stuff like baseballs, movie tickets, movie posters, rocks, shells, sharks teeth and fossils! I would love to organize and redecorate his room.

I'm diggin the light sea-blue stripes! Love the stripped rugs. Personally- I take inspiration from that gorgeous map! I'm envisioning more white- possibly even black and white in this room! Love the way you have stacked the black boxes. Those are keepers. And you already know I think the Shrimp sign is the best thing ever!

So much fabulous stuff!!! My son would really like the painting of the woman!!!! Your boy is at UCLA right ?(bravo!!). My son's best friend is going there. Freshman. We were high fiving him at dinner tonight.

I mentioned you to the owner at Juxtaposition this afternoon (what a talented blogger you are).

Does you son HATE it that you are calling it his/guest room? My daughter still gets mad even though she lives in NYC. Can't wait for the redesign of the room!

Holiday Home Tour - House #2

Both my mom and my uncle's homes were part of the Holiday Home Tour this year benefiting The Alameda Family Services League. My uncle's home is a grand old Spanish Revival that wraps the corner of Northwood Dr. (the street I grew up on) and Yale Dr. where he and my mom grew up and where my mom now lives. His address is actually Gibbons Drive which is one of the most beautiful tree lined streets in Alameda. "Alameda" actually means, tree-lined avenue!  This fountain greets you at the entry to his home. Santa had the perfect spot for a long afternoon of greeting guests.  You may remember the greeting he gave my mom when he saw her!! A lovely vignette awaits you at the door. My mom is no stranger to this house. They have lived in the same neighborhood, just a few houses apart, for over 40 years! We haven't had a summer vacation yet but all it took for me to get inspired to do a little upgrade to our summer room or as my hubby calls it, his mancave, which is actually our garage, was this little number... It had been sitting for the longest time in my favorite thrift store and as hard as I tried to ignore it, it finally got my attention when one night as I was watching a movie with my hubby I imagined it across the room replacing an existing bench. Bright and early the following morning I high tailed it over there hoping it would still be there waiting for me! I sighed a breath of relief when I spied it over in the corner.  It was originally priced at $250 but had been lowered recently to $100. I asked politely if they might meet me at $75.   They promptly agreed as they were anxious to free up space. Once I got it home it became the catalyst for further upgrades in the space.
