What fun that must have been! We went to a parade 2 weeks ago to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of our Fire Dept. It was fun. Love your pics, they really capture the feeling of a small town parade. How coincidental, I was just talking about "Cracker Jacks" the other night with my husband. Very fond memories of that delicious treat :)

i tuly love your optimistic spirit terri. you are a kid at heart!;) there is nothing like an early morning,waiting for the parade! the little town i grew up in had "the corn festival parade", and afterwards on into the night, was a giant fair with food (lots of corn on the cob),games and rides. it was smack dab in the middle of august, usually the hottest day of the year! no matter, it was tadition!

That's as American as you can get! My home town has quite a lot of parades. My Mom lives on Main St....so the parade goes right by her front door. They do not have a July 4th parade however. Next month will be the Rodeo Parade.....then in late Sept or early Oct....the Homecoming Parade and then December the Christmas Parade. I've designed floats for parades in the past and enjoy that but....I probably will try to never go to another. I think they are pretty boring actually. The last one I went to was a Halloween Parade in OKC a few years ago and I was in it as I'd designed a float for it and had to walk along side it. That was enough of parades to last me a life time.

But this does look like the perfect 4th. My uncle emcee's a big 4th of July parade very year in his town that looks much like what you showed here.

How fun was this? Guys marching with their skies, too funny! Love all the doggies in their Fourth decorations and that little girl with the Chinese umbrella, look how she's standing, way cute! We have something like that here only way smaller since we have so few people here but still fun. Looks like you're really enjoying your holiday!

What a fun, homey parade. We had one like that on Lido...I should have take photos, too. Decorated bikes and golf carts and vintage cars and veterans.... I am in Mammoth Lakes now. Are you still in the mountains?

I just LOVE this town! My husband and I sat and looked at your old barber-shop photos. He used to go to one very similar in NYC but, alas, they're all gone now. No parades here, unfortunately...but lots of great memories.

I thought you were on vacation and we wouldn't be hearing from you for about a week or so but it has been a wonderful surprise finding your posts about all the treasure hunting and now the parade...you are having a great time and I thank you for letting us share your adventures! Did you ever march in a parade? I did when I was a Brownie and I had to carry the flag...it was very exciting! XO

How fun for me! I didn't make it to any parades this year and now I feel like I did :) Growing up in a small town some of my best memories were of our celebrations and getting to be in the parades. Looks like you had a fun 4th weekend! ~ Jacque

Well, it was a wonderful Thanksgiving full of togetherness, great food & good times... and when it was all over I went to put a load of laundry on and accidentally ran my new iphone 4 through the wash!      In the meantime, while I wait for it to completely dry out, I thought I'd post some Christmas decorating ideas that I've saved over the years which have inspired me in decorating our home which I've been doing since Black Friday... and oh my, what a mess I'm in at the moment!! Holiday Home Tour - House #2

Both my mom and my uncle's homes were part of the Holiday Home Tour this year benefiting The Alameda Family Services League. My uncle's home is a grand old Spanish Revival that wraps the corner of Northwood Dr. (the street I grew up on) and Yale Dr. where he and my mom grew up and where my mom now lives. His address is actually Gibbons Drive which is one of the most beautiful tree lined streets in Alameda. "Alameda" actually means, tree-lined avenue!  This fountain greets you at the entry to his home. Santa had the perfect spot for a long afternoon of greeting guests.  You may remember the greeting he gave my mom when he saw her!! A lovely vignette awaits you at the door. My mom is no stranger to this house. They have lived in the same neighborhood, just a few houses apart, for over 40 years! Summer Living

We haven't had a summer vacation yet but all it took for me to get inspired to do a little upgrade to our summer room or as my hubby calls it, his mancave, which is actually our garage, was this little number... It had been sitting for the longest time in my favorite thrift store and as hard as I tried to ignore it, it finally got my attention when one night as I was watching a movie with my hubby I imagined it across the room replacing an existing bench. Bright and early the following morning I high tailed it over there hoping it would still be there waiting for me! I sighed a breath of relief when I spied it over in the corner.  It was originally priced at $250 but had been lowered recently to $100. I asked politely if they might meet me at $75.   They promptly agreed as they were anxious to free up space. Once I got it home it became the catalyst for further upgrades in the space.
