The glass piece is solid so I don't think it is not an inkwell.



I really don't have a clue... do you?
I was thinking the letters AOT might have something do with Fraternities or Sororities.

And the glass piece looks to me like a paper weight, in a special design.

wow, that is cool. My friend's mother collects these glass objects that the telephone companies used ages ago, they were part of the telephone poles, they are highly collectible (valuable!) wondering if this is one of those? hmmmm.

haven't a clue...but I think you are on the right track with the fraternity thing...the base kind of looks homemade--meant as a throne of sorts for the beautiful glass piece and if it is fraternity art Lord only knows what the beautiful glass piece may be meant to symbolize.

OK Terri, this is a really long shot .... supposing the line at the front was to prop up a piece of paper, and the glass ball designed to refract and reflect light and so light up the page .... I told you it was a long shot!

I would guess also that it is a combination of paper weight and an inkwell set, but the inkwell is missing.

I think this is from the 1910's to 1920's. A woodshop project for a kid. He found the paperweight thing around the house, the slot would be for a pencil, or maybe a fountain pen. I think carving an inkwell into this setup might have been too difficult. Unique, though. Ann

I think a little girl had it in her bedroom and her dream was that she marry a carpenter prince and her diamond would be this size. Each night she chanted "My man works with wood and marry me he should" God, that sounds like words to a rap song.

Oh, I have one just like it! Ha! Just kidding... you find the most interesting things. Reminds me of a piece of driftwood that I found as a kid, it was shaped like a fish and I carved my mothers initials in it. I still have it and people think it is some valuable old world artifact. The glass piece looks oddly shaped on the bottom, that may be a good clue? Have fun on your trip ~ Jacque

I found my bicycle! (my new old bicycle) The funny part is where I found it. Yesterday after finishing my post, " I'm longing for a new bicycle ," I was lamenting to my husband about how badly I wanted a bicycle of my own.  He looked at me and said, " but you have a bicycle."  (our vintage Colombia tandem beach cruiser) I said, "I know, I love the tandem but I would like my own bicycle."  He said, "You do have your own bicycle... remember you bought one at a garage sale late last summer?" The light bulb went off and the memories came flooding back!  All of a sudden I remembered the day I scored my awesome vintage bicycle at a garage sale on Briggs Avenue for $20!  I ran to the backyard where it had been covered up with a large brown tarp for the winter.  I squealed with delight at the sight of it!  I remembered when I bought it it had several small American flags attached to the front basket from being ridden in the 4th of July...

28 years ago today I found my greatest treasure.
