I know I do. ESPECIALLY on the expressway. This is a serious infirmity of our culture.
My daughter can have her own computer when she makes it herself. We have an agreement. :)

You are so spot on! I personally refuse the new fancy phones. I have a 5year old flip phone that 90% of the time either I have misplaced, or forgotten to charge the battery. I beg hubby to cancel my subscription, but he refuses.We have been out to dinner with friends and have had to ask them to put away their phones! Seriously?! These wandering, zombies-completely glued to this device as the world passes them by. What ever could be so important, I ask? The downfall of our society. Frightening! I am so glad you said something La Dolfina! Let's start a new movement-Letters in the mail, eye contact, FULL sentences, verbal discriptions of events as opposed to endless images shoved into our faces! It will be our Windmill!

It's so sad! It's almost like we need a sign in restaurants, and everywhere for that matter, that says "leave your cell phone at the door"! It takes some discipline, but personal time...meals, conversation, togetherness, should always be just that!

I talk about this ALL the time with my husband. My kids actually seem to experience withdrawl symptoms when they are without their electronics. In the car I just want them to put down the phone and look out the window and dream... like I did. Everyone is so "over connected" that people literally don't talk anymore. Sad commentary on a generation.

What a timely post and a pet peeve of mine. I purposefully unplug on the weekends. People know how to get hold of me if there is an emergency. I see people taking a walk with face in a phone, babies in strollers and mom's face is in a phone instead of talking to her kids. I notice people can't even wait in the grocery line without whipping out their phone and scrolling their their email. As if their email is of national importance. I just want to tell them all you're not fooling anyone. Thanks for talking about this epidemic!

I received a Holiday card from a dear friend showing her 5 teenage kids all standing with their mobile devices in hand! (humorous, but it is true!)

So sad but true...

I just got a basic cell phone 4 years ago and it is a pay as you go plan. My husband finally caved only because he needed to be available 24/7 for his aging parents. He told me the other day that someday he is going to smash it with a hammer.

There are times it would be nice to have a smart phone...we were in San Francisco last week and felt like dinosaurs pulling out a map. At least we had his laptop to use at the hotel.

A woman at work informed my husband recently that "he needed a new phone". :)

I found my bicycle! (my new old bicycle) The funny part is where I found it. Yesterday after finishing my post, " I'm longing for a new bicycle ," I was lamenting to my husband about how badly I wanted a bicycle of my own.  He looked at me and said, " but you have a bicycle."  (our vintage Colombia tandem beach cruiser) I said, "I know, I love the tandem but I would like my own bicycle."  He said, "You do have your own bicycle... remember you bought one at a garage sale late last summer?" The light bulb went off and the memories came flooding back!  All of a sudden I remembered the day I scored my awesome vintage bicycle at a garage sale on Briggs Avenue for $20!  I ran to the backyard where it had been covered up with a large brown tarp for the winter.  I squealed with delight at the sight of it!  I remembered when I bought it it had several small American flags attached to the front basket from being ridden in the 4th of July...

28 years ago today I found my greatest treasure.
