Today while trolling ebay I came across this listing...

Antique Framed Sailor's Woolies Ship Picture c. 1890's




 Superb antique framed sailor's woolies or wooly ship picture, circa 1890's or possibly earlier.

 
 
This type of folk art was stitched by sailors to pass the time aboard ship. In very good condition, colors are still bright. 
 


Frame measures 14 5/8" x 11 5/8" in size. Inscribed on the reverse: Dunbavand. 

 
This maritime scene depicts a tall ship or sailing ship.


Primarily made of wool with thread rigging. 
A wonderful primitive piece!

Is the above ebay comp realistic?

 I must admit my heart skipped a beat when I saw the starting bid amount!

I have no idea, but I think you shoud investigate this or put yours up for a bid and see what happens, You never know and you are the treasure hunter extraordinaire and you have had some wonderful luck an wonderful treasures. I say go for it!! Why not?!!! Kathysue

Take my advise from someone who's a textile dealer that ebay piece is way over priced so don't do it!Just because you love something doesn't mean you have to have it. Hey if it sell for a thousand bucks put yours up.

I honestly believe the ebay price is waaay to high! It's a wonderful piece but certainly not worth $999! Hold on to yours and see what happens but don't go for the other one. XO

We are not sure but it seems a bit over priced to us. However, we would have to defer to someone who knows more than us.

I think that seller is crazy too...
What you don't know is that he had it listed for $1500 last week and when it expired, he re-listed it for $999.
I guess it goes to show just how subjective price can be.

I just had this happen to me too, and not just one seller...several actually had a piece I'd just found for $75 at between $675 and $900....I joke and say "I must be unaware of it's considerable value" *winks* But truly they're just crack smokers!

Holiday Home Tour - House #2

Both my mom and my uncle's homes were part of the Holiday Home Tour this year benefiting The Alameda Family Services League. My uncle's home is a grand old Spanish Revival that wraps the corner of Northwood Dr. (the street I grew up on) and Yale Dr. where he and my mom grew up and where my mom now lives. His address is actually Gibbons Drive which is one of the most beautiful tree lined streets in Alameda. "Alameda" actually means, tree-lined avenue!  This fountain greets you at the entry to his home. Santa had the perfect spot for a long afternoon of greeting guests.  You may remember the greeting he gave my mom when he saw her!! A lovely vignette awaits you at the door. My mom is no stranger to this house. They have lived in the same neighborhood, just a few houses apart, for over 40 years! We haven't had a summer vacation yet but all it took for me to get inspired to do a little upgrade to our summer room or as my hubby calls it, his mancave, which is actually our garage, was this little number... It had been sitting for the longest time in my favorite thrift store and as hard as I tried to ignore it, it finally got my attention when one night as I was watching a movie with my hubby I imagined it across the room replacing an existing bench. Bright and early the following morning I high tailed it over there hoping it would still be there waiting for me! I sighed a breath of relief when I spied it over in the corner.  It was originally priced at $250 but had been lowered recently to $100. I asked politely if they might meet me at $75.   They promptly agreed as they were anxious to free up space. Once I got it home it became the catalyst for further upgrades in the space.
